Eachanari Vinayagar Temple is dedicated to god Vinayagar or Lord Ganesh, situated near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Acclaimed to be one of the most ancient temples in Coimbatore city. Lord Ganesha is the main deity of this temple. Lord Vinayaga symbolises Ohm Pranav manthara is a presiding deity of this temple. Built in 1500 AD, Eachanari Vinayagar Temple is one of the oldest pilgrimage centers dedicated to Lord Ganesh.The last Kumbabishekam was conducted 18 years back in the year 1990. Eachnari turned to be the holy place. The Moolavar of this temple is actually made for the installation at Perur, Arulmighu Patteswarar Temple and since the cart carrying moolavar struckdown at this place from Madurai and Eachanari become the blessed place of Lord Vinayaga.
The deity of lord Vinayagar is a massive 6 feet in height and 3 feet in width and it’s considered as one of the biggest idols in South India.
The huge icon placed on a high platform enable devotees who are standing outside the temple too to have a clear view of the deity.
According lengend stories, the Vinayaka statue installed in the temple was broughtfrom Madurai for the purpose of establishing at the Perur Patteeswarar Temple. However, the wheel of the vehicle carrying the idol got stuck up on the way and all efforts to release went futile.The local residents viewed it as a blessing. They brought the idol down from the vehicle and installed at the same place and started worshipping every day. Thus, the Vinayagar temple at Eachanari was formed.It is not only the fascinating story of its construction that attracts devotees to the temple but also its stunning architecture and spiritual ambiance. The first Kumbhabhishegam of the temple was performed in the year 1977 and second Kumbhabhishegam was in 1990. “Swarna Bandhana Maha Kumbhabhishegam” was conducted in the year 2004.
Vinayagar temple is administered by Hindu Religious and Endowment of Tamil Nadu Govt. “Ganapathi Homam” is performed daily at 5.30 A.M. Special pujas are performed on the days of Saturdhi, Amasavya, Poornima and Shakti. Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated Vinayagar’s birthday every year in August-September, it is the most auspicious day at Eachanari Vinayagar temple. In 1998, a golden chariot was built for this temple at a cost of Rs. 55 lacs. Daily 7 pm A procession of God will be conducted in golden chariot. Every day, 100 – 150 devotees will have free lunch in the temple. Free marriages are arranged for poor people. The “Anbu House” (orphanage) which runs on this temple offers 25 children and provides free accommodation, lodging, clothing and education. Devotees and the general public contribute liberally for the poojas, celebrations and the charitable activities of the temple.
