Ramaswamy Temple-kumbakonam

Located in the center of the town of Kumbakonam, this Sri Rama temple is a sight to behold. This temple is said to have been built over 500 years ago with beautiful architecture pieces and has been built by the Nayakkar kings during the 16th century. The temple has a three-tiered gopuram surrounded by walls. The statue of Lord Rama is placed in the Shiva temple. Other paintings include the look of his brothers Lakshmana, Bharata and Sathuruguna and the Hanuman worship scene. Sixty four pillars in the hall near the tower are carved with beautiful features that depict various chapters of the Ramayana. Each pillar is carved out of a single stone and the delicacy is very prominent. Rama in the temple is depicted with Vyakarna Mudra, while Hanuman is depicted holding manuscripts.
