Sri Jagadeeshwara Perumal Temple is also named as ‘Thiruneeragam’ is dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kancheepuram city of Tamil Nadu and also one of the 108 Divya Desam Temples. This temple is situated inside the temple premises of ‘Ulagalandha Perumal Temple’ which houses four temples of ‘108 Divya Desam Temples’ on it own. They are named as ‘Thirukkarvaanam’, ‘Thirukaaragam’, ‘Thiruooragam’ and ‘Thiruneeragam’. Sri Jagadeeshwara Perumal Temple is situated very close to Kamakshi Amman Temple of historic city Kancheepuram.

Sri Jagadeeshwara Perumal Temple is the place where the Sage Markandeya, father in law of Oppiliyappan is said to be performed penance towards Lord Vishnu on the banks of river Badhra. And it is said that Lord Vishnu revealed himself in the form of a child in a banyan leaf to the sage Markandeya. This temple is a small shrine inside the Ulagalandha Perumal Temple.


Sri Jagadeeshwarar Perumal Temple is glorified in Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the Vaishnava canon, and hymns were sung by the saint Thirumangai Azhwar. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Jagadheeshwara Perumal also called as Lord Neeragathaan, in standing posture with four arms facing towards the east direction and His consort Goddess is Goddess Nilamangai Valli Thayaar also presides here. The Vimanam (tower above the sanctum sanctorum) of Sri Jagadeeshwara Perumal Temple is called Jagadeeshwara Vimanam. The Pushkarani (temple tank) of Sri Jagadeeshwara Perumal Temple is called Akrura Pushkarani.

By Road

The city of Kanchipuram is well connected with the other part of the states and it is few kms from the Quadrilateral National Highway. There are frequent bus services from Chennai and it takes 2- 3 hours to reach. The Chennai Metropolitan and the state express transport operate the services.

Kanchipuram is connected with the southern part of the rail network and few trains are running through Kanchipuram. Suburban trains are running between Kanchipuram and Chennai beach on specified intervals.
