Sri Pavala Vannar Temple is situated in Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu, which is said to be dedicated to Lord Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu and also revered as one of the 108 Divya Desam temples, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Sri Pavala Vannar temple is glorified in Nalayira Divya Prabandham, a Vaishnava canon, and Mangalaasan (devotional songs) were sang by the Azhwar saints. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Sri Pavala Vannar (Lord Vishnu), facing towards the west direction.
There is sannidhi (shrine) for Lord Pacchai Vannar, which is located opposite to the shrine of Lord Pavala Vannar. It was said that Mangalaasanam (devotional songs) by azhwar saint are not accomplished at Pacchai Vannar temple. And hence both the shrines are together called as one Divya Desam temple. Lord Pacchai Vannar also called as Lord Maragatha Vannar is considered as the Hamsam of Lord Shiva and Lord Pavala Vannar is considered as the Hamsam of Goddess Adi Parashakti (Goddess Parvati). And hence worshiping both the sthalams (shrines) is considered more sacred.
There is a separate shrine for Goddess Pavala Valli Thayaar, the consort of Lord Sri Pavala Vannar. The Vimanam (the tower above the sanctum sanctorum) of the Sri Pavala Vannar temple is called as Pavala (coral) Vimanam. The Theertham (temple tank) of Sri Pavala Vannar temple is called as Chakkra theertham.
The temple remains open from 8.00 AM to 11.00 AM in the morning and from 4.00 PM to 7.00 PM in the evening.
