Trilinga temples are also called as Trilinga Desam, which refers to “the country of the three Lingas (Shivalingams)” and also situated in Andhra Pradesh. The mythology was that Lord Shiva has been descended as Shivalingam on three sacred mountains. The three sacred mountains are:
The three holy mountains are marked as the boundaries of the entire Telugu country, which is presently called as Telangana. It is said that in a Telugu canon named Andhra Kaumudi, Sri Andhra Vishnu, a legendary warrior by the name Viṣhṇu who became famous as a very valorous saviour of his small kingdom, have built a massive wall, connecting Srisailam, Bhimeswaram, and Kaleswaram with the Mahendra hills. And it is said that in the three hills were the three eyed Ishwara, the supreme god Shiva, was found bearing the trident in His hand and was addressed by a group of divinities resided in the form of three Shivalingams.
And hence the three hills and its associated temples are known as Trilinga Kshetras (temples) or Trilinga Desam. The legend also says that Andhra Vishnu was assisted by the divine angels and fought with Nishambhu, the great giant, for thirteen yugas (ages of life of the world) and killed him in battle and took up His residence on the banks of river Godavari along with the sages (saints).
Kaleshwaram Temple also called as Dakshina Gangotri is located at the border of Telangana and Maharashtra on the banks of river Godavari. The presiding deity of Kaleshwaram temple is Lord Shiva. And the special feature of this temple is that the two sacred Shivalingams are found on a single pedestal. The two sacred Shivalingams are considered as Lord Shiva and Lord Yama, the god of death. And the deity is called as Lord Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy.
Srisailam Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is located in Srisailam, state of Andhra Pradesh India, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Srisailam Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is one of the twelve Jyotrilinga temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple houses the main deity Shivalingam. It is also considered as one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas.
Bhimeswaram (or) Draksharamam
Draksharama Temple is located at the town of Draksharamam also called as Dakshina Kasi, East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Draksharama Temple is one of the Pancharama Kshetras (five temples), dedicated to Lord Shiva in Andhra Pradesh. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Shiva, who is called by the name Lord Bhimeswara Swamy, who is in the form of sacred Shivalingam.
